A Hot Wedding Trend of 2024 - Over-the-Top Guest Dress Codes | Your Local Vancouver Wedding Planner

Hello and congratulations to all the newly engaged couples out there! I'm excited to share with you one of the hottest wedding trends of 2024 - Over-the-Top Guest Dress Codes.

Gone are the days of strictly formal dress codes. Nowadays, providing dressing guidelines for your guests has become a trend that adds a touch of creativity and rebellion to your special day. The most unique dress attire that we've seen so far at a wedding? Lagertha Winter Vikings... Think all the faux fur, hunting lodge and log fires, candle lit dinner, dinner musical theatre entertainment, and dramatic outer coats...

We're talking about themed outfits, bold patterns, vibrant colours, and everything that screams unique and fun. Whether it's a vintage look, a futuristic theme, or a colourful explosion, the sky's the limit when it comes to your guests' attire. Let your imagination run wild and embrace the freedom to express yourself through fashion. Not only is this trend exciting for your guests, but it also adds a fun and quirky element to your wedding. Imagine the photos you'll have with your guests dressed in their most eccentric attire. It's a great way to break the ice and create a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere for everyone.

Now, you might be wondering if this trend is appropriate for a traditional celebration. The answer is a resounding yes (in most cases)! Your wedding is a celebration of your love and your unique personality, and the dress code should reflect that. Even if you're having a formal wedding, you can still add a touch of fun and creativity through your guests' attire, by stepping outside of the normal dress code.

You can even explain the atmosphere "vibe" or design to your guests on the invite, and let their creativity take flight with that info (this usually gives them a hint regarding how casual or elegant the event is). Our own senior planner Lauren, recently had her wedding cocktail hour that she described as a whimsical english garden party on her invites, and instead of giving a strict guest code just emphasized no tie or long dress was needed (she also asked that people considered reducing their carbon footprint by using something they had in their closet already if possible). She said how her guests were able to dress both comfortably for the summer heat in something that they already had and loved in their closet, and it felt just like a backyard garden party with her closest friends!

Just make sure to communicate your dress code guidelines clearly so everyone knows what to expect. And if you're worried about your guests not having the right attire, don't fret. If you're taking a more creative route with your outfit theme, you can always provide a costume rental service or a DIY station where your guests can create their own unique outfits. This will not only add to the fun but also create a sense of community among your guests as they collaborate and help each other out.

In conclusion, Over-the-Top Guest Dress Codes are a fantastic trend that injects creativity and fun into your special day. Don't be afraid to embrace your unique personality and let your guests do the same. Your wedding is a celebration of your love, and there's no better way to celebrate than by having a blast with your loved ones. So go ahead and let your imagination run wild - your guests will thank you for it!
